DAY VISIT TO R.H.S. GARDEN at HYDE HALL.

Hyde Hall

The weather was clement, if a little breezy.  The coach driver pleasant and the coach comfortable.  We arrived around midday just in time for some to get refreshments before setting out round the extensive grounds.

The gardens proved to be well worth our journey.  If you're after inspiration, or just a whole cornucopia of ideas, then this is the place for you.  From the dry garden, through colour themed, herbaceous borders to wildflower meadows, there's interest for all tastes.  My favourites were, the sheltered Robinson Garden with its ferns, and the walk through the Woodland Area which gave lots of scope for photography round every corner; in fact I think this would be well worth another visit in springtime, when the bulbs are in flower, just to capture the colours and atmosphere of the place at that time of year.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, the cakes in the Barn Restaurant were mouth watering and each slice was enough for two!  Just right to set us up for the homeward drive through interesting Essex countryside with its villages of traditionally pargetted cottages and well tended gardens.

What a wonderful day!  Let's all do it again sometime?
